Eyelid Surgery

The aging process, coupled with genetics and environmental damage, can affect your appearance in a variety of ways. Among the most noticeable changes: droopy, hooded upper eyelids and baggy, wrinkled lower eyelids that can make you look tired or sad. Eyelid surgery from Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Bogdan can alleviate that fatigued expression and take years off of your appearance. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, he has the skills, experience and training needed to successfully rejuvenate the delicate, sensitive skin on and around your eyelids.

To achieve the best results for your blepharoplasty in Dallas, Dr. Bogdan evaluates your upper eyelids and lower eyelids separately. Devoting time to this detailed analysis allows him to customize the procedure so that it's ideal for your facial structure and skin type. He will then explain every step of your eyelid surgery, so that you'll know exactly what to expect and feel confident about your decision.

If you live in or around Dallas, eyelid surgery can change the way others see you and the way you see yourself. Contact us onlineContact us online or call us at (817) 442-1236.

Your Eyelid Surgery Procedure Options

Dr. Bogdan performs eyelid surgery on both the upper eyelids and lower eyelids. He customizes each eyelid surgery procedure based on his patients' specific concerns, skin type, and stage in the aging process.

Upper Eyelid

Based on his many years of specialized facial plastic surgery experience, Dr. Bogdan often designs eyelid surgery procedures to enhance both the eyebrow position and eyelid condition. The reason: sagging eyebrows — which can occur as part of the aging process — can contribute to excess skin on the upper eyelids. In some cases, Dr. Bogdan complements eyelid surgery with a brow lift; in other cases, BOTOX® Cosmetic is a good option. By combining eyelid surgery with brow correction, Dr. Bogdan "opens up" your eyes for an alert, revitalized look.

Some patients also benefit from fat contouring on their upper eyelids. This stage of the procedure can add definition, resulting in smoothly sculpted eyelids.

Lower Eyelid

Dr. Bogdan believes in performing the least invasive lower lid surgery to achieve the desired results. The first signs of aging on the lower eyelids typically consist of dark circles and fat deposits or bags under the eyes. In reality, those dark circles are typically shadows caused by the bulging fat deposits beneath the eye. To correct this concern, Dr. Bogdan repositions the fat by performing a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. This scarless technique uses an incision made on the inside of the lower eyelid. For patients with fine wrinkles or a moderate amount of excess skin, he performs a light chemical peel as well.

For patients with more significant signs of aging on their lower eyelids, such as skin laxity, Dr. Bogdan tailors the procedure to include muscle and skin tightening. In such cases, he also removes excess skin and any excess fat in the region.

Recovery and Results

Incisions for eyelid surgery are made in the natural folds or creases of the eyelids. Dr. Bogdan will provide you with detailed instructions for caring for your incisions so that, after they heal, they are almost invisible. You may experience mild redness and swelling for a few days after your procedure. After 1 week, you will return to Dr. Bogdan's office to have your stitches removed. You can then return to light work. You can return to your regular routine 2 weeks after surgery.

When they have fully healed, Dr. Bogdan's patients appear refreshed and alert. Their eyes appear brighter and more open - similar to when they were much younger.
